Stretch Right

Stretching is one component of a healthy and safe exercise routine that lots of folks ignore, rush through or do at the wrong time. Stretching properly helps prevent injuries so this is not the thing to skimp on. Here are some stretching dos and don’ts to exercise by:

  • Warm up for at least 5 minutes before you stretch.

  • Stretch out all the major muscle groups.

  • Hold your stretches for at least 15 – 30 seconds.

  • Do a second set of stretches after your workout as part of your cool down. Post exercise stretches are the most effective in increasing flexibility because your muscles are very warm.
