It's Never Too Late to Plant Seeds With Those You Love!

My niece and I planted our salad garden early. And although we started many of our flowers from seed, during the winter when "spring was running late," we bought all of our vegetables in two inch pots from the Farmer's Market.
Maya gave careful consideration to what she'd like in her salad garden this year. She chose lemon cucumbers and about a dozen varieties of tomatoes. She picked out shelling beans, green beans, yellow beans and even purple beans but when I asked her what kinds of lettuces she'd like to grow in her salad garden, she thought about it for a good while and then very thoughtfully replied, "none. I don't care for lettuce, Auntie Kathy. But you have some. I'll eat the tomatoes and you can have the leaves."
If you're not feasting on tender lettuces in your house, it's not too late to plant a few rows of baby lettuces. They come up rather quickly, especially if you buy them in two-inch pots. To learn more, click here. |
